WELCOME TO THE COUNTY PERFORMANCE PAGE
The Northants County Performance Programme gives talented young netballers access to quality coaching, competitive match play, and performance support as they develop along the England Netball Player Pathway.
For the 2025/26 season, the programme enters a new era with new management, new coaches, new kit, and a refreshed performance offer focused on developing each athlete’s individual technical and tactical skills.
Athletes will have the opportunity to apply their learning through monthly fixtures against neighbouring counties in the East Midlands region and within our assigned National Super League territory.
Northants is aligned to Loughborough Lightning for pathway support and progression opportunities. This territory includes:
North Bucks
South Bucks
Oxfordshire
Northants
Leicestershire

The England Netball pathway is designed to give talented athletes the right opportunities at the right stage of their development.
For U13 and U15 athletes, the recommended entry point is the County Player Development Programme in the county where the athlete lives or goes to school. Athletes may choose another county, but should avoid excessive travel where possible.
For U15 Pathway Club eligibility, athletes must usually:
Be registered in a County Player Development Programme within the club’s assigned territory, or live or go to school within that territory.
An exception may apply if another club’s regular training venue is closer to the athlete’s home or school.
From U17 onwards, athletes can access Pathway Club programmes more freely, regardless of county boundaries.
Selection decisions are based on more than one trial performance. Athletes are identified through:
Evidence of skill and quality consistency
The ability to perform under pressure
Performance across multiple contexts
Selectors also consider qualities such as:
Willingness to learn
Resilience
Decision-making
Confidence
The ability to take risks
Athletes may be assessed across:
movement and ball skills
game sense
match play, roles and responsibilities
position-specific qualities
This includes areas such as footwork, change of direction, passing and catching, spatial awareness, decision-making, transition play, and effectiveness in position.
